RIKI RACHTMAN's 'The Ball' To Record Special Show For U.S. Troops In Iraq
March 27, 2003For two months, former MTV's "Headbanger's Ball" VJ Riki Rachtman has been delivering his two-hour "heavy" music show, dubbed "The Ball", to Southern California via local radio station KLSX 97.1.
On Saturday, April 5, "The Ball" will be doing more than blowing out speakers in Los Angeles. On April 5, Riki Rachtman will record the show and send discs to the troops overseas.
Says Rachtman: "It doesn't matter if you are for or against the war. The fact is brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers and good friends are risking their lives. When I saw the news and saw kids that lived five minutes from me coming home in pine boxes, it hit home. These may be people that stood in line with me at the market or sat next to me at a concert. While I'm listening to music, playing video games or watching the news in the comfort of my living room, they're out there fighting for their lives disconnected from family, friends and loved ones.
"I was at the post office and saw my neighbors sending gum and razors to the troops. It may seem trivial but I believe music can take you someplace else even if it is only for a minute. On Saturday, April 5, listeners can call in and make requests and dedications to our soldiers. The show will be sent to the troops and just might make them feel a bit better, if only for a second. Besides I bet playing SLAYER prior to battle gives us even more of an edge..."
In addition to calling in live listeners will be able to leave brief recorded messages on a hotline that will be incorporated into the show. The show will air live Saturday, April 5 KLSX 97.1 FM at midnight.
